Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Sunday blasted Democrats for looking like hypocrites when it comes to the Ukraine saga. According to Paul, Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump for the exact same thing former Vice President Joe Biden did.
“I think the American people want fairness and I don’t think they’re going to judge fairness when they’re [Democrats] accusing President Trump of the same thing Joe Biden did, threatening the aid if some kind of corruption is not investigated. It seems like everybody, both parties, have been threatening aid if some kind of investigation either doesn’t happen or is ended,” Paul explained.
According to the senator, the situation between Trump and Ukraine and Biden and Ukraine are similar.
“And so I think really what’s going to happen is people are going to say ‘Oh, they’re impeaching President Trump for exactly the same thing Joe Biden did.’ He threatened the aid if they didn’t fire someone. Supposedly the president did if they didn’t investigate someone,” he explained. “So it sounds exactly like what Joe Biden did. If they weren’t going to impeach Joe Biden they look like hypocrites for not having a word to say about what Joe Biden did.”
Paul made it very clear, multiple times, that he would have never provided Ukraine with aid because the United States simply doesn’t have the money for it.
“If it were me, I wouldn’t give them the aid because we don’t have the money. We have to borrow the money from China to send it to Ukraine,” Paul said. “So I’m against the aid. I think it’s a mistake to do the aid. So I wouldn’t have played any of these games, but I think the American people think it’s unfair to treat Trump under one standard and Joe Biden under a different standard.”
Democrats have repeatedly said President Trump threatened to withhold military aid unless Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky investigated corruption between then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. While Joe Biden was handling international relations with Ukraine on behalf of the Obama administration, Hunter was being paid $50,000 a month to sit on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, despite having no natural energy experience.
Trump released the transcript, which showed no quid pro quo took place. And no aid was threatened.
