Chicago has one of the worst records for crime and gun violence in our entire country. President Trump took a personal interest in this city, when he attended a police conference there not long ago. But the Chicago Police Superintendent refused to accept the president’s invite. Now, this same man is out of a job.
It’s a sad reality that the Land of Lincoln, Illinois, has some of the worst crime statistics in the country. That’s all thanks to Chicago, a city of unchecked crime and rampant political corruption. One year, gun violence was so bad in the Windy City, that it skewed the national average. That is a lot of shootings, if you ask me.
We don’t have to assume the ongoing crime problem stems from the toxic politics of the region. Even though much of the state is populated by conservatives, Chicagoland has backed liberal policies for decades. They have the strictest gun laws in the country, ironic that many people die from gun violence, huh?
President Trump has not ignored the issue. In fact, he attended a police conference earlier this year in the city—all to discuss the importance of the police in keeping our country safe. The president personally invited Chicago Police Superintendent, Eddie Johnson, to attend. Makes sense. This was a police conference, after all—being held in his city.
But the man rejected the offer, because it was Trump making it. Pretty stupid, if you ask me. President Trump is the law and order guy. He backs our police and has been a tireless advocate for them. A police superintendent would be an idiot to reject his support. Or a criminal.
Looks like one of those is true for Johnson. He was entangled in a criminal investigation earlier this year, one that motivated him to retire. But when the mayor uncovered the details of what he did, she fired him immediately.
On October 17th of this year, Johnson was found slumped behind the wheel of his car at a stop sign near his home on the city’s southwest side… He later admitted to Lightfoot that he may have had “a couple of drinks with dinner” before he got behind the wheel of his car…
“Upon a thorough review of the materials of the Inspector General’s ongoing investigation, it has become clear that Mr. Johnson engaged in a series of ethical lapses that are intolerable,” the mayor said in her statement…
“Had I known all the facts at the time, I would have relieved him of his duties as superintendent then and there,” Lightfoot added. She went on to say that Johnson “misled” the people of Chicago with his official story. [Source: Daily Wire]
Ouch. Looks like the superintendent of police had been drinking and driving—or something close to that effect. When pressed for details about why he was slumped behind the wheel, he apparently lied to the mayor. Mayor Lightfoot said she would have fired him on the spot, had she known what really happened.
Talk about karma! This man insults the President of the United States, only to be kicked out of office in disgrace.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen people who attack Trump face the music. Funny how the people who are the most vocal critics of the president, end up with the worst records. It’s almost as if Trump can zero-in on the losers of our society and pick them out. After insulting them, their true colors come through.
Since Trump was elected, we’ve seen politicians, celebrities, government officials, and other public figures exposed for wrongdoing. All after they’ve attacked, criticized, or gone after the president. Seems like if you hate Trump, you’ve got something to hide.
Johnson was supposed to be upholding the law, but instead broke it on various levels. What he did was so terrible, they wouldn’t even let him finish out his time in office.
Perhaps insulting the president—and being a law-breaking bum—go hand-in-hand.
Maybe there’s a lesson in this for Democrats. But I doubt they’ll learn it.
