After playing games with our system of government, Nancy Pelosi is finally sending her impeachment articles to the Senate. Reports suggest that the Senate will hold their trial as early as next week. But what will this Republican-controlled event look like? Mitch Connell has made clear his intentions. But Sen. Ted Cruz suggests an entirely different approach.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find any intelligent American who says Trump committed a crime. Even as Democrats were preparing their bogus impeachment inquiry, their scheme was falling apart. That’s because the president himself released the transcript of the call between he and Ukraine.
All the wild accusations the “whistleblower” made were proven untrue. But that didn’t stop House Democrats from conducting one of the most one-sided, dishonest, and unfair mock trials in our nation’s history.
These pathetic leftists denied basic rules and government standards. They rejected any concerns or requests by House Republicans. They railroaded their sham of an impeachment, ultimately passing it on partisan lines.
Finally, after Pelosi’s pathetic stunt, the articles will go to the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will hold a trial. This means the president will finally have a fair shake at this process. He will be allowed to defend himself and clear his name.
McConnell said he would be bringing up no new witnesses. The House had their chance to build a case against Trump and he wasn’t going to give them a “redo.” But another Republican senator has said he might allow witnesses, ones the president wants.
Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz said in a new interview that he is “open” to the Senate calling more witnesses in an impeachment trial, including the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower…
“It was a one-sided show trial on the House side. They denied the minority the ability to call witnesses in the House. That was contrary to the precedents that were set with both the Clinton impeachment and the Nixon impeachment.”
“In the Senate, if the president wants to call witnesses in his defense, I believe the Senate should let the president do that. If the [White House] wants to call Hunter Biden, if the [White House] wants to call the whistleblower, due process dictates that he have the opportunity to present his defense,” Cruz said. Cruz blasted House Democrats for the way they ran their joke of an impeachment inquiry. They broke established norms to brand Trump guilty until proven innocent. In the past, independent council was chosen to run an investigation. This time, partisan Democrats ran the investigation.
In the past, both parties called up witnesses to offer perspectives from various points of view. This time, Democrats called up partisan D.C. swamp dwellers as “witnesses” to give their opinion on Trump’s phone call. Republicans were denied any witnesses. People who were on the actual call were not even questioned.
You don’t have to be a political expert to see this was a total sham.
Because of that, Cruz says Trump should be allowed to call witnesses. Witnesses that should have been questioned during the House inquiry. The president is being accused of serious crimes. Democrats want to use the extreme measure of impeachment to remove the duly-elected president from office. Shouldn’t that mean he gets to defend himself?
If you get a parking ticket, you have the right to your day in court. But not the president?
Democrats think because they have a slim majority in the House, they can call the shots. Pelosi even tried to manipulate the Senate by withholding the articles. It’s clear they don’t care about upholding our democracy or respecting our president. They just want him gone, no matter what.
They’ve disgraced our system of justice again and again. They’ve wasted time and money on a bogus impeachment.
If Trump wants to torch them during a Senate trial, he has every right to. Call witnesses, expose the left’s corruption, leave them in the dust. I’m sure there are more than a few Americans who want to see him do just that.
