Democrats continue their campaign to remove Donald Trump from office. But what is the president doing? Scoring more wins for the American people. He just signed an order that will protect students’ First Amendment rights in public school. The order rolls back Obama-era regulations that targeted Americans of faith across the country.
When I was in high school, it was not an uncommon sight to see students engaged in religious activity. We would pray around the flag pole once a year and even hold a Bible club. Students would pray during free periods and openly discuss their faith with their friends.
This wasn’t that long ago, mind you. This was in the early 2000s. But something changed, right around the time Barack Obama entered the White House. In recent years, we’ve seen a harsh crackdown on religious freedom in America’s schools.
Students have been sued for prayer during events. New policies threatened and scared students from sharing their faith. And an atmosphere of hostility toward religious Americans festered and grew inside our own country.
But all that’s about to change. On the same day the left’s bogus impeachment moved to the Senate, President Trump took a stand for students who practice their faith in public schools.
As his impeachment trial was getting underway in the Senate, President Trump gave a hat tip Thursday to his evangelical base by updating the federal guidance on prayer in public schools — an action that came on National Religious Freedom Day.
The order is similar to a 2003 guidance on school prayer, but it establishes a mandatory filing process for complaints against local schools and school districts…
“You have things happening today that 10 or 15 years ago would have been unthinkable,” Trump said in response to a question about his views on the culture wars…

President Trump’s guidance eliminates any doubt about a student’s First Amendment freedoms while in school. It makes sure that students are allowed to pray and read scripture during their free time. It also makes sure that they can freely talk about their faith to other students, the same way they are free to discuss other topics, such as politics.
Why is this so important? Because even though we are a land that protects our religious freedom, many think our faith is forbidden in public schools. Students have been attacked, rebuked, and shamed by both classmates and teachers for doing simple things like reading the Bible. Principals have forbidden prayer and even harassed students who try to express their faith. Far-left groups have sued schools that allow their students to exercise their First Amendment rights.
It’s insanity. Just because a student walks onto a public school does not mean they are no longer Americans. The very first right of the First Amendment to our Constitution protects religious freedom. No public school (or radical, left-wing group) has the power to strip a student or teacher of that right.
But the Obama-administration went to war with religious groups. Regulations put unfair and burdensome constraints on religious institutions. Some left-wing advocates tried to deny public funds to religious private schools. They sued Christian businesses, left and right.
The attitude liberals have about religious freedom is that it’s the exception, not the rule. They think that those of us who believe in God are cute and all, but we should not be allowed to express our views in public. Certainly not in public school. They’ve gone as far as oppressing religious people, so that we have zero impact on our country.
But they are in the minority. The vast majority of Americans hold to a sacred faith. And they will not allow left-wing zealots to strip us of our God-given rights.
President Trump is one of us. And he is fighting to protect our freedoms, even as the left tries to destroy him.
Something tells me their schemes to obstruct his presidency will be as successful as Egypts’ trek through the Red Sea.
