Not too long ago, Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders got some heat over what he said about Fidel Castro. He praised the murderous dictator for his literacy program. At a recent town hall event, he was asked if he regretted what he said. What he said next will stun you.
It’s pretty ridiculous for any American politician to praise Fidel Castro. I don’t care if the man put Cuba on the moon, he was our enemy. Fidel Castro acquired nukes to fire at our major cities. He would have done so, had it not been for the blockade we set up around the country. He continued to be an adversary for decades.
Worse than that, Castro was notorious for how he treated his people. He murdered anyone who didn’t embrace his socialist/communist views. And what do you think he did to gay people? Gay Cuban men were sent to forced labor camps to make them more “manly.” It was a way of killing them off.
Yet Sanders has not backed off his praise of the man, because of a literacy program? That’s insane. This week, he was given an opportunity to reverse course. Instead, he not only affirmed what he said, he went on to praise another notorious communist regime.
During a town hall on the Fox News Channel on Monday, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said that he doesn’t regret his comments about Fidel Castro and stated that China has reduced extreme poverty…
Moderator Bret Baier asked, “Do you regret at all saying what you said, at that time, in this race?”
Sanders responded, “No… But what can we say about China in the last 50 years? Would anybody in their right mind deny that extreme poverty in China has been reduced? Can anyone deny that?” [Source: Breitbart]
Sanders kept emphasizing how he doesn’t “approve” of the Chinese government. But he still just can’t help himself for praising their impact. He said China has reduced “extreme poverty.” And apparently, that’s important enough to bring up—when Baier asked him about Fidel Castro.
What’s odd is how Sanders is bringing up communists so often. Aren’t there other leaders and countries you could be praising, Bernie? Like, say, the United States? Whenever Bernie needs to point to a role model for his agenda, he points to a communist dictatorship.
Hmm… I wonder why? Maybe it’s because, he’s a freaking communist?
He keeps saying he loves democracy. But he always praises the very worst regimes in recent history (stopping short of Hitler, of course).
It’s really dumb of him to be praising China right now. Because, you know, it’s their fault the world is suffering from the coronavirus. You have to admit that it’s China’s abusive work policies and horrible factory conditions that lead to this outbreak. But it’s those very things that reduced “extreme poverty” as Sanders calls it.
Of course, the people are still poor, just not extremely poor. And China was only able to provide them with jobs, because of all the business we gave them. So, there’s something to be said about capitalism, huh?
If China stayed isolated from the global economy, it would be in total ruins right about now. All thanks to its communist regime.
Yet Sanders would have you believe we should overlook its abusive, corrupt government, because they reduced poverty.
But like his praise of Castro, this is nonsense. You don’t need socialism/communism to reduce extreme poverty or illiteracy in a country. We are a free, capitalist society. And we teach our children how to read and ensure few Americans suffer extreme poverty.
Why should any presidential candidate point to communists for good examples?
Maybe it’s because Sanders wants voters to think Castro or China’s Xi are good role models. After all, that’s exactly how he’ll lead, if he’s elected president.
Let’s make sure that never happens.
