Why is there so much talk about a filibuster, these days, right? What’s the big deal? Well, Democrats only have the slimmest of majorities in both the House and the Senate. In 2022, that will all-but be erased, as Republicans retake Congress. The radical left only has two short years to ram as radical of an agenda as they can down America’s throat. The only thing standing in their way is the filibuster.
Only two Democrat senators supported keeping the filibuster. Lately, one of them, Joe Manchin, is appearing to crack. While he still supports the rule, he wants to make it “hard,” meaning force a Republican who wants to filibuster to literally talk for hours, until the session ends.
Democrats think that would discourage Republicans from challenging a toxic bill, as if they’d just sit back and let extreme policies just pass without a fight. But Sen. Lindsey Graham has news for them, he’s not backing down.
During an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina promised to use the “talking filibuster” to its full extent if the rules of the Senate are adjusted…
“If they did this,” he said, “we could really shut down the entire Senate because we just won’t show up. Here’s what Biden needs to understand: if you go to the talking filibuster, we will take the floor to stop HR 1.”
Graham continued, “I would talk till I fell over to make sure we don’t go to ballot harvesting and voting by mail without voter ID. I would talk till I fell over to make sure that the Equality Act doesn’t become law, destroying the difference between a man and woman in our law.” [Source: Daily Wire]
Democrats think all they need to do is remove the filibuster and they’d get everything they wanted. But both Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham have explained that, if the left goes nuclear, Republicans can do the same.
Because of the split Senate, unanimous consent is needed to get anything of significance done. On top of that, there need to be 51 voters, not including Kamala Harris, in order to hold a quorum to establish the talking filibuster.
All that means is that Democrats don’t have enough votes to make major changes to the Senate. And if they want to force the issue, Republicans can just decide not to show up. Without a 51 vote-majority, the Senate is stalled.
If Democrats don’t think Republicans can be united to do that—they will be sorely mistaken.
Even if the talking filibuster comes back, Graham is making it clear that he’d talk till he “fell over” to ensure bad legislation doesn’t even get a vote. He specifically named the radical changes Democrats want to make to our elections and civil rights. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for the Democrats. They want to pass strict gun control, amnesty to millions of illegals, and jack up our taxes.
Graham will be one of many Republicans willing to stand and fight. Democrats wanted them to lay down and die. Instead, they lighted a fire under the GOP.
Funny how that happens, right?
