Hakeem Jeffries Won't Rule Out Impeaching Trump Again Because Democrats Never Learn

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is refusing to rule out yet another impeachment push against President Trump if Democrats manage to claw back the House in the 2026 midterms. Because apparently the first two impeachments worked out so well for them that they're dying to try a third.

You'd think a party that impeached the man twice and watched him get elected president again anyway might take the hint. But no. Jeffries told reporters he has not "ruled anything in and ruled anything out" regarding so-called accountability measures. That's Washington-speak for "we're absolutely going to do it, we just can't say it out loud yet."

This isn't some fringe backbencher floating the idea after too many cocktails at a fundraiser. This is the top Democrat in the House keeping the door wide open. And he's got plenty of company. His caucus has already filed three separate impeachment resolutions during Trump's second term alone — because when you fail at something, the obvious move is to keep doing it.

Rep. Al Green of Texas kicked things off with H. Res. 939 back on December 10, 2025. The House voted 237-140 to table it on December 11, with 47 members voting present and even 23 Democrats crossing over to join Republicans in killing the measure. When you can't even keep your own party together on a stunt vote, that's not a movement — that's a tantrum.

But Green wasn't alone in the clown car. Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan filed H. Res. 353 back in April 2025, and Rep. John Larson of Connecticut jumped in with H. Res. 1155 in April 2026. Three resolutions, zero success, infinite delusion.

And then there's Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who never misses an opportunity to turn a microphone into a megaphone. The New York Democrat declared that "the American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care about the long-term consequences," referring to military operations involving Iran. She went full dramatic: "This war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic."

She even addressed Trump directly: "Mr. President: this was not an inevitability. This is a deliberate choice of aggression." AOC lecturing a commander-in-chief on foreign policy is like a goldfish lecturing a shark on swimming technique. Bold? Sure. Credible? Not remotely.

Here's what Jeffries and company won't say out loud: impeachment is their entire 2026 midterm platform. They don't have an economic message. They don't have a border message. They definitely don't have a crime message. So they're going back to the only play in their book — try to remove the guy the American people elected.

140 Democrats voted against tabling Green's impeachment resolution. That's 140 members of Congress who looked at a president with a clear electoral mandate and said, "Yeah, but we know better than the voters." That number tells you everything about where this party is headed if they get the gavel back.

We've seen this movie before. Twice. The first impeachment gave Trump a fundraising bonanza. The second one made him a martyr. And now they want to do it again, presumably because the definition of insanity hasn't made it into the Democratic caucus briefing book yet.

Jeffries is playing coy while he's not in power, but nobody's fooled. If Democrats win the House in the 2026 midterms, impeachment articles will hit the floor before the new members find the cafeteria. Bank on it.
