Tim Walz Mocked a Shooting Survivor's Medical Boot — Steve Scalise Made Him Regret It in One Tweet

Tim Walz, the man who couldn't even win reelection in his own deep-blue state, decided to log onto social media and mock two Republican leaders for wearing medical boots. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise — a man who wears that boot because he was literally shot nine years ago at a congressional baseball practice — delivered a response so devastating that Walz probably wished he'd stayed in retirement.

Imagine being Tim Walz. You lost your own party's confidence, dropped out of your gubernatorial reelection after a massive fraud scandal, and your biggest contribution to American politics was being Kamala Harris's running mate in a losing campaign. And THIS is how you spend your free time?

Here's what happened. Scalise and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer both posted a lighthearted photo on social media, both sporting medical boots. Scalise joked, "Standing in solidarity with @GOPMajorityWhip Emmer! The House Leadership Boot Caucus is officially up and running." Two guys in leadership having a laugh about their matching footwear. Normal human behavior.

Walz, apparently scrolling Twitter with nothing better to do since Minnesota voters showed him the door, fired off his response: "The House Boot Licker Caucus is officially up and running."

Real classy, Tim.

Let's pause here and remember something the former governor apparently forgot. Steve Scalise wears that medical boot because on June 14, 2017, a left-wing gunman opened fire on Republican members of Congress at a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Scalise nearly died. He spent weeks in the hospital, endured multiple surgeries, and has dealt with the physical consequences ever since. That boot isn't a fashion statement — it's a reminder that a politically motivated lunatic tried to murder him.

And Tim Walz thought that was funny.

Scalise, to his credit, didn't take the bait with outrage. He went straight for the jugular with facts. His response, as reported by RedState: "Hey Tim, congratulations on retirement! Looks like you're still bitter that Tom and I shut the door on the billions that were going to your 'Learing' centers!!"

That "Learing" wasn't a typo from Scalise. It was a deliberate reference to the Minnesota childcare fraud scandal — one of the largest pandemic-era fraud schemes in the country — where a now-infamous daycare called the "Quality Learing Center" couldn't even spell its own name correctly on the sign out front. Billions of dollars flowing to fake childcare centers, and Walz's administration was asleep at the wheel while it happened.

That's the fraud scandal that effectively ended Walz's political career. The one that made him so toxic he couldn't even run for reelection as governor of Minnesota. The one that sent him crawling onto the Harris-Walz ticket as a consolation prize — where he also lost.

So to recap Tim Walz's 2024-2026 trajectory: presided over billions in fraud, got picked as VP candidate as a participation trophy, lost the election to President Trump and Vice President JD Vance, dropped out of his own reelection, and now spends his days mocking shooting survivors on social media.

What a legacy.

The thing about Walz is he's always had this fake-folksy "aw shucks" routine that the media loved. Coach Walz. Regular guy Walz. The kind of Democrat who hunts and drives a truck, supposedly. But every time he opens his mouth without a teleprompter, the mask slips and you get exactly what we saw here — a petty, bitter man punching down at someone who took a bullet and lived to tell about it.

Scalise didn't need to play the victim card. He didn't need a press conference or a strongly worded statement. He just reminded everyone exactly why Tim Walz is unemployed and exactly what Walz's real legacy is: billions in stolen taxpayer money funneled through centers that couldn't even spell "learning."

One tweet. Total destruction. No survivors — except, ironically, the actual shooting survivor who delivered it.
