President Joe Biden will sign a slate of executive orders and presidential memorandums Tuesday addressing racial “equity,” as previously promised.

In particular, two items will undo highly touted actions taken by former President Donald Trump that rolled back prior Obama administration initiatives. One involves the demilitarization of local police forces while the other reinstates a fair housing rule at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“America has never lived up to its founding promise of equality for all, but we’ve never stopped trying,” Biden tweeted Tuesday morning ahead of the signing ceremony. “Today, I’ll take action to advance racial equity and push us closer to that more perfect union we’ve always strived to be.”

The first action, which CNN reported Tuesday morning will reinstate an order signed in 2015 by former President Barack Obama, will prevent federal agencies from supplying local police forces with military-grade equipment. Trump revoked the order in 2017 shortly after being sworn into office, an action that gained new public scrutiny in the wake of the death of George Floyd and other black Americans in the summer of 2020. Biden had vowed to reinstate the Obama-era rule throughout his 2020 campaign.

The second aforementioned action will reinstate HUD’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule, which Trump and former HUD Secretary Ben Carson formally ended in 2020. The Trump administration claimed at the time the rule, designed to promote housing investments in low income communities, provided too high a regulatory threshold for local municipalities and indirectly funneled federal funds into wealthier neighborhoods. Again, Biden immediately vowed to reinstate the rule, and according to CBS, his action is expected to go “further” than the Obama-era variant.

Biden’s Tuesday orders are also expected to take steps toward eliminating private prisons, address discrimination against Asian Americans and create a federal commission to promote policing reform, all campaign promises.

The racial equity plan Biden released during the campaign additionally vowed to reform the Opportunity Zones often touted by Trump and Senate Republicans, invest hundreds of billions into minority-owned small businesses and institute a $15,000 tax credit for first-time minority home buyers.

The president has signed a record number of executive orders in his first week in office, many of which directly overturned Trump administration policies, including a ban on transgender Americans serving in the military.

The White House did not respond to Daily Caller’s inquiries on the subject by press time.

President Joe Biden signed three executive orders Wednesday night, his first night in the White House.

The orders in question will make America rejoin the Paris Climate Accords, mandate masks and social distancing on all federal properties and pledge support for “underserved communities.”

The texts of Biden’s new executive orders had not been published by press time.

“These are all just starting points,” Biden told the reporters gathered in the Oval Office for the signing ceremony. “There’s going to be a lot of focus on the middle class, and I think some of the things we’ll be doing are bold and vital, and there’s no time to start like today.”

“These are just executive actions,” he noted. “They are important but we’ll need legislation for a lot of things we’re going to do.”

Biden is expected to sign a record number of executive orders in his first two weeks in office. In addition to new initiatives on climate and coronavirus, he is expected to rollback the majority of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, including halting construction of the Souther Border wall and providing a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal aliens living in the United States.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared Tuesday that the Chinese Communist Party is committing “genocide” against Uighur Muslims, making the United States the first country to formally do so.

“For the past four years, this Administration has exposed the nature of the Chinese Communist Party and called it what it is: a Marxist-Leninist regime that exerts power over the long-suffering Chinese people through brainwashing and brute force. We have paid particular attention to the CCP’s treatment of the Uyghur people, a Muslim minority group that resides largely in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Western China,” Pompeo wrote in a statement released on his last full day as Secretary of State.

“Their morally repugnant, wholesale policies, practices, and abuses are designed systematically to discriminate against and surveil ethnic Uyghurs as a unique demographic and ethnic group, restrict their freedom to travel, emigrate, and attend schools, and deny other basic human rights of assembly, speech, and worship.”

“The Nuremberg Tribunals at the end of World War II prosecuted perpetrators for crimes against humanity, the same crimes being perpetrated in Xinjiang,” he continued. “In addition, after careful examination of the available facts, I have determined that the PRC, under the direction and control of the CCP, has committed genocide against the predominantly Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang.”

Pompeo claimed that the atrocities being carried out against Uighurs are still “ongoing” and represent “the systematic attempt to destroy Uyghurs by the Chinese party-state.”

He specifically cited unjustified imprisonment, forced labor and sterilization and the torture of millions as genocidal actions carried out by the CCP and further called on China to “immediately to release all arbitrarily detained persons and abolish its system of internment, detention camps, house arrest and forced labor; cease coercive population control measures, including forced sterilizations, forced abortion, forced birth control, and the removal of children from their families; end all torture and abuse in places of detention; end the persecution of Uyghurs and other members of religious and ethnic minority groups in Xinjiang and elsewhere in China, and afford Uyghurs and other persecuted minorities the freedom to travel and emigrate.”

Pompeo’s declaration comes after the State Department carried out a year-long review of Beijing’s actions against the Uighurs.

President-elect Joe Biden pledged in August to work to end Beijing’s systematic targeting of Uighurs, calling the actions some of the “worst abuses of human rights in the world today.”
