New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) is allowing rock stars to bypass the state’s mandatory 14-day quarantine so that they can perform at the MTV Video Music Awards, one of the music industry’s biggest nights that is set to take place August 30, according to a report from the New York Post.

The Post said that the state’s Department of Health has granted the VMAs a semi-exemption to the quarantine rule. Musicians can “participate in the production of the show,” a spokeswoman for Cuomo told the newspaper, “but they will only interact with other members of the cast and crew and will quarantine when not working.”

She said the VMAs agreed to police itself with “rigorous safety protocols including testing and screening and compliance checks by a special compliance officer.”

This year’s VMAs will be New York’s first major awards show since the outbreak of the Chinese coronavirus. The ceremony is expected to be audience-less, with artists performing at venues throughout the city. Among the stars expected to attend are Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, the Black Eyed Peas, and presidential candidate Kanye West.

New York has imposed a strict 14-day quarantine to travelers from 34 states, including Florida, Texas, and Georgia. Earlier this week, the governor added Alaska and Delaware to the list. Travelers who violate the quarantine can be fined up to $10,000 or be sentenced to 15 days in jail.

New York has the second highest COVID-19 death rate in the country, just behind New Jersey. Gov. Cuomo is facing fire for his decision early in the pandemic to compel nursing homes to accept coronavirus patients, which is believed to have allowed the virus to spread rapidly among the elderly population.

Despite the state’s death toll, Gov. Cuomo is taking a victory lap. His new book American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is set to hit shelves in October, will provide a “remarkable portrait of leadership during crisis and a gritty story of gut-wrenching choices that point the way to a safer future for us all,” according to publisher Crown.

The latest chapter in the long-running hate-fest between President Donald Trump and Rosie O’Donnell is expected to hit bookstores at some point in the future.

Former talk-show host and full-time Trump antagonist Rosie O’Donnell has confirmed that she is collaborating with Michael Cohen on a “spicy” book about the president.

O’Donnell’s confirmation comes after the New York Post‘s Page Six first broke the news earlier this year. The newspaper reported at the time that O’Donnell contacted Cohen in writing after he was sent to a federal prison in Otisville, New York, and is now helping him with a book that is expected to be highly critical of President Trump.

Cohen, who was Trump’s attorney and fixer, is serving a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to tax evasion and bank fraud. He cooperated with special counsel Robert Mueller on the Russia collusion investigation, which ultimately found no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. He has also testified before Congress where he painted President Trump as a racist and “con man.”

O’Donnell said that she reached out to Cohen first.

“I wrote him a letter the day that Trump got impeached. I found his inmate number online,” she told The Daily Beast. “He always looked to me like someone from my neighborhood. He grew up on Long Island like I did, he’s a few years younger, and he reminds me of my brothers. I look at this guy and go, ‘How did he fall under the spell of that charlatan?’”

O’Donnell eventually visited Cohen in the slammer, where they bonded over their shared hatred of the president.

“Michael and I talked a lot about how he got involved in Trump, how it’s a cult, and what role he played not only in Trump Inc. but also Trump’s own family, including how much he dealt with Barron and Melania,” O’Donnell said. “One thing he said to me that was shocking was that one of the nicest people he’s ever met in his life is Melania Trump. He said, ‘I swear to you. She’s a great mother, she’s a great woman, and she’s in a predicament with him and doing her best to get through it.’”

The Sleepless in Seattle actress said she counseled Cohen on the book after he revealed he was working on it.

“He told me what chapters he was doing in his book, and on my way home, I was writing about what had happened between us, and I gave him my breakdown of things that should be in chapters,” O’Donnell said. “I said, ‘You should tell this story as a chapter, you should tell this story as a chapter.’ He’s in the midst of writing it, and is nearly done writing it, and hopes that it’ll be out before the election.”

She added: “It’s pretty spicy.” No publication date has been announced for Cohen’s book.

The president and O’Donnell have been arch-rivals for years, going back to her tenure on ABC’s The View, when she frequently harangued him on air.
Lately, she has been working to blame the coronavirus on the president, using the hashtags #TrumpVirus and #TrumpGenocide on Twitter.

In February at a campaign rally, President Trump accused Rosie O’Donnell of violating multiple campaign finance laws and getting off easy.

“Rosie O’Donnell — that was a massive violation of the campaign finance laws,” President Trump said. “But Dinesh D’Souza, they wanted to put him in jail … for doing something that was really understandable… Rosie O’Donnell, five times — what she did is incredible, nothing happens.”

O’Donnell allegedly made over-sized campaign donations to at least five Democratic federal candidates, thereby breaking Federal Election Commission rules, according to multiple reports.

Disgraced movie mogul and Democrat party mega-donor turned convicted Hollywood sex offender Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Wednesday following his conviction on two sex charges.

The judge’s decision likely represents a life sentence for Weinstein, who is 67 and has stated that he is in poor health.

Weinstein was found guilty last month of raping a hairstylist and forcibly performing oral sex on a former Project Runway production assistant. But he was acquitted of more serious charges of predatory sexual assault and first-degree rape.

The Oscar-winning producer and former Miramax boss was facing up to 29 years in prison but his lawyers asked the court for a more lenient jail term of five years, saying that anything more than 12 years would constitute a “life sentence.” Prosecutors reportedly asked the judge for the maximum sentence.

Weinstein’s attorneys have said they will appeal the verdicts.

Speaking earlier in the day at the sentencing hearing, Weinstein expressed remorse for his past actions but also said that the #MeToo movement has gone too far.

“I feel remorse for this situation. I feel it deep in my heart. I’m really trying to be a better person,” Weinstein said, according to USA Today.

But he also said that the #MeToo movement has deprived many people of due process under the law.

“I am totally confused,” he said according to a Variety report. “I think men are confused about all of this…this feeling of thousands of men and women who are losing due process, I’m worried about this country.”

Weinstein added: “This is not the right atmosphere in the United States of America.”

Multiple reports said that Weinstein was wheeled into the courthouse in a wheelchair.

Following his conviction on February 24, Weinstein was set to move to Rikers Island in New York. But the Shakespeare in Love producer reportedly experienced chest pains and was sent instead to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan where he had a heart procedure. He has since been moved to the infirmary unit at Rikers Island.

“He’s miserable but trying to be optimistic as best he can,” Juda Engelmayer, a spokesman for Weinstein, recently told the New York Post. “He has had a lot of time to think about his life and be humbled, but he thinks it’s going to be a long, uphill battle from here.”

Weinstein has been accused by dozens of women of sexual misconduct, ranging from sexual harassment to rape. He still faces criminal charges in Los Angeles. No court dates have been announced for those cases.

Harvey Weinstein spent years courting favor from high-profile political figures, donating millions to Democrat lawmakers through the years.

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton received more money from Weinstein than any other Democrat, as the New York Post reported:

Federal Election Commission filings show the disgraced movie mogul bundled $1.4 million for Clinton during her presidential bid in 2016 and handed her another $73,390 dating back to her 1999 New York Senate seat run. […] The Miramax founder raised $72,100 for Obama but only bundled $679,000 for his 2012 reelection bid — half of what he raised for Clinton, the FEC data shows. […] The generous donor also made five-figure contributions to Democrat lawmakers such as Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, who replaced Clinton as the junior senator for New York, and Chuck Schumer, Cory Booker of New Jersey, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Patrick Leahy of Vermont.
