Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is reportedly considering making Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo his attorney general if elected president, Axios reported Sunday.

Cuomo chairs the National Governors Association, where aides have reportedly started looking at potential replacements for Cuomo if Biden is elected, Axios reported. Democratic donors said Biden and Como’s history of friendship would factor into his consideration for the appointment, the outlet noted.

However, Cuomo’s office said he has no interest in serving in a cabinet position, Axios reported.

“100% he’s made zero outreach, has had zero conversations about this and has made his desire to stay in New York clear as day and be governor as long as people want him,” Richard Azzopardi, Cuomo’s senior adviser said, according to Axios.

The attorney general would be responsible for leading investigations, potentially into allegations of misconduct involving President Donald Trump and managing the federal response to current social justice issues such as police violence and systemic racism, according to Axios.

Biden is expected to appoint a diverse cabinet if elected, Axios reported. Other potential attorney general nominees include former acting attorney general Sally Yates and Stacey Abrams, according to the outlet.

Biden and Cuomo met in the 1980s and worked together during Hurricane Sandy restoration efforts, Axios reported.

“When one of them needs something, it’s automatic,” a person familiar with their relationship said to Axios. “It’s not a calculation.”

New York City, Seattle and Portland, Oregon have allowed ongoing violence and destruction of property and refused to institute measures to prevent criminal activity, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Monday.

These cities met the criteria President Donald Trump issued on Sept. 2 to identify cities that have not sufficiently dealt with rioters and would be subject to funding review, the DOJ announced.

“When state and local leaders impede their own law enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest,” Attorney General William Barr said, according to the DOJ.

“We cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance,” Barr added, according to the DOJ. “It is my hope that the cities identified by the Department of Justice today will reverse course and become serious about performing the basic function of government and start protecting their own citizens.”

In New York City, shootings increased after protests and looting started around May 28, while New York City Council voted to cut the New York Police Department budget by $1 billion, according to the DOJ.

Protests continued in Portland, Oregon, for 100 consecutive nights where rioters started fires, destroyed property, and injured numerous officers, according to the DOJ. The Portland City Council voted to cut $15 million from the police bureau, a move that included eliminating the law enforcement team that investigates shootings, though the city has seen an increase in shootings.

In Seattle, Washington, “anarchists and activists” established the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” (CHAZ) which turned in to the “Capitol Hill Occupied Protest” (CHOP) where law enforcement and other emergency first responders were not permitted to enter in June, according to the DOJ.

During the month CHOP existed, crime in the area increased 525% from the previous year, including “two additional homicides, 6 additional robberies, and 16 additional aggravated assaults (to include 2 additional non-fatal shootings),” according to the DOJ.

An elderly man was assaulted by protesters outside the White House in Black Lives Matter Plaza, Washington, D.C. Thursday night.

Protesters reportedly punched him in the head before he fell to the ground near Lafayette Square Park, according to a video of the incident.

Protesters yelled at the man to “get the fuck out” as they followed him towards St. John’s Episcopal Church, video of the incident shows.

Another protester can be heard yelling at the crowd to “stop it, this is not what MLK would want. Fuck Trump, but keep it peaceful.”

The protests are ongoing with the Republican National Convention, where President Donald Trump is expected to officially accept the Republican presidential nominee later tonight.
