A panel of gun owners laughed in the face of MSNBC host Ali Velshi when he asked what they thought of gun buyback proposals from Democratic politicians.

“Let me ask you about a proposal floated out there by a presidential candidate, or more, about gun buybacks. Who thinks that is a good idea?” Velshi asked. Several panelists immediately burst into laughter, while another mocked the question, joking: “I want mine for a million bucks, so if they’re willing to pay me that.”

Several members of the panel raised their hands when asked if Democratic gun control proposals would affect their vote in the 2020 election. Three panelists answered yes when asked if the gun issue would “most determine who you would vote for.”

“Oh yeah, yeah,” answered one voter, a black American man. “Don’t mess with my rights to protect my family by trying to take away my firearms.”

The panelists were also skeptical of some companies’ decisions to limit sales of firearms and ammunition to their customers. “People that want to get them and will get them, they’re still going to get them,” said one woman.

“So now this is their way out, to say, they can be the hero, we’re gonna get rid of all this stuff. Well, they were probably looking for a way to get rid of it anyway,” another panelist added.

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez promoted “prison abolition” in a pair of tweets Monday morning.

Ocasio-Cortez called for “a real conversation about decarceration [and] prison abolition in this country,” adding: “A cage is a cage is a cage. And humans don’t belong in them.”

“Prison abolition” is a radical left-wing movement to abolish prisons altogether—including for violent offenders. The Democratic Socialists of America, of which Ocasio-Cortez is a part, voted in August to create “a national Police & Prison Abolition Working Group.”

“Mass incarceration is our American reality. It is a system whose logic evolved from the same lineage as Jim Crow, American apartheid, & slavery,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. “To end it, we have to change. That means we need to have a real conversation about decarceration & prison abolition in this country.”

“Yesterday morning I spoke with a woman who was thrown in Rikers as a teenager. Put in solitary confinement for MONTHS, aka torture. Force-fed pills. The conditions were so bad, she too had drank out of toilets,” she added. “A cage is a cage is a cage. And humans don’t belong in them.”

According to research by the Manhattan Institute’s Rafael A. Mangual, 60% of the inmates in state prisons—which house the overwhelming majority of prisoners across the country—”are serving time for murder, rape, assault, robbery, or burglary—four times the number convicted only of drug offenses.”

“We have more than enough room to close many of our prisons and explore just alternatives to incarceration,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a follow-up tweet. “Our lawmaking process means we come to solutions together, [and] either way we should work to an end where our prison system is dramatically smaller than it is today,” she added.

Democratic New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland described Antifa as “peaceful protesters” Saturday, the same day members of the violent group clashed with the right-wing Proud Boys in Portland.

Haaland offered the inaccurate description on CNN after President Donald Trump tweeted “Major consideration is being given to naming ANTIFA an “ORGANIZATION OF TERROR.’”

“This is on par with what the president does. He sides with the white supremacists, the white nationalists, with the domestic terrorists in our country, just as — you know, he has incited violence against people of color,” Haaland said.

“Portland is a progressive city. They want to ensure that they keep their city moving forward. It’s not surprising that Trump would side away from the folks who are the peaceful protesters working to safe guard their city from domestic terrorism. Just not surprised at all that the president sides with the white nationalists. That’s been his mode of operation since before he was elected president,” the congresswoman continued.

WATCH:

Haaland’s misleading description of the left-wing movement was first flagged by the conservative Media Research Center.

Contrary to the congresswoman’s claim, Antifa members have repeatedly engaged in violence.

Masked individuals at an Antifa rally in June violently attacked journalist Andy Ngo, sending him to the hospital. Antifa members in Philadelphia attacked two Marines in Philadelphia last year.
