Everybody seems to notice the unusual number of executive orders Joe Biden has signed in the first few weeks of his time in office. In the first week, Presidents Bush, Obama, and Trump signed a handle of orders. No more than 2 or 3. Biden? He’s already signed over 30. Yes, you read that right.
It’s hard to believe Biden is doing this in accordance with his vision for the country. Much more likely, these are orders cooked up by the people who pull his strings, the special interest groups that effectively call the shots within the Democratic Party.
Most of the orders, it seems, are aggressive attempts to roll back Trump’s policies. While he can’t undo everything Trump did through EOs, Biden is doing his darndest to pretend like Trump was never president.
Already, his orders have sparked lawsuits from the states. Expect more to come. But now, even the left-wing New York Times is calling on Joe to stop.
In a piece Wednesday headlined “Ease Up on the Executive Actions, Joe,” the paper’s editorial board said the raft of executive orders “is no way to make law.”
“A polarized, narrowly divided Congress may offer Mr. Biden little choice but to employ executive actions or see his entire agenda held hostage. These directives, however, are a flawed substitute for legislation,” the board wrote, with the Senate split 50-50 and Democrats having only a narrow House majority.
The board of the liberal-leaning, national newspaper also argued the directives are “intended to provide guidance to the government and need to work within the discretion granted the executive by existing law or the Constitution. They do not create new law — though executive orders carry the force of law — and they are not meant to serve as an end run around the will of Congress. [Source: Just the News]
How ironic. Way back when President Obama promised to get around Congress with his “phone and pen,” the liberal media applauded him. They were all too happy to see Obama ignore a Republican-held Congress to force his agenda.
But today, even the NYT has to worry about a president that is signing as many orders as his pen can handle. They warned that orders are not how a president of a democratic republic leads. The president is obligated to cooperate with Congress, listen to the will of the people, and submit to the rulings of the courts.
Biden thinks he’s some kind of dictator who can force his agenda through with these executive orders. The massive number he’s already signed is troubling. Does Biden ever bother to consult with Congress? With us?
Unions are ticked off. Democrats in various states are panicking. Now, even the mainstream media is worried. Perhaps Congress needs to get its act together and rein in this runaway president. Or, perhaps the courts need to check his power, before he tramples over them.
Regardless of any of that, it’s clear that liberals are suddenly realizing what a terrible mistake they’ve made.
