From almost before President Trump took the oath of office, major national publications were running speculative pieces on how a Republican administration could remove President Trump from power. You had stories of a “suicide pact” involving Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense James Mattis, and Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin whereby they agreed if one of them was fired, then the other two would quit, and the uproar could possibly trigger a 25th Amendment action by the remaining cabinet secretaries. During one of the low points of our national history, when we were going through the Russia Hoax, Rod Rosenstein allegedly (some say sarcastically) offered to wear a wire during a meeting with President Trump to gain the evidence needed to convince the cabinet and Vice President Mike Pence to remove him.

We’ve seen some active measures taken to provoke a removal from office. James Comey, for instance, laid the groundwork for a special counsel investigation of something he knew did not happen in order to bring about impeachment. The smug and gelatinous Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman actually managed to engineer an impeachment trial.

Now, in Bob Woodward’s new book, Rage, which is his insider’s account/score-settling of the Trump administration, we have another example.

The book documents private grumblings, periods of exasperation, and wrestling about whether to quit among the so-called adults of the Trump orbit: Mattis, Coats, and then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Mattis quietly went to Washington National Cathedral to pray about his concern for the nation’s fate under Trump’s command and, according to Woodward, told Coats, “There may come a time when we have to take collective action” since Trump is “dangerous. He’s unfit.”

In a separate conversation recounted by Woodward, Mattis told Coats, “The president has no moral compass,” to which the director of national intelligence replied: “True. To him, a lie is not a lie. It’s just what he thinks. He doesn’t know the difference between the truth and a lie.”

Taking into consideration that this is Dan Coats telling Bob Woodward telling us the story, here are some thoughts.

First and foremost, I don’t understand why anyone would ethically serve someone who they viewed to be unfit. Mattis is smart enough to know that no matter how good you are, you can’t compensate for unfitness, be it emotional, intellectual, or moral in nature. He has also been around long enough to have had this Elbert Hubbard quote drummed into him:

“If you work for a man, in heaven’s name work for him! If he pays you wages that supply you your bread and butter, work for him – speak well of him, think well of him, stand by him and stand by the institution he represents. I think if I worked for a man I would work for him. I would not work for him a part of the time, and the rest of the time work against him. I would give an undivided service or none. If put to the pinch, an ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness.”

The idea that Mattis took the job as Secretary of Defense, requiring President Trump to ask for a Congressional waiver for him to do so, and then treated the man so shabbily behind his back makes me think one hell of a lot less about Mattis.

Secondly, Jim Mattis is Roman Catholic. The National Cathedral is also a) pagan Episcopalian and b) nowhere near either the Pentagon, the White House, or Mattis’s quarters. The Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle is much closer to the White House than the National Cathedral if, indeed, he needed to unburden his soul for falling for the temptation of power.

The dark whisper about needing to “take collective action,” is concerning. It is one thing if a civilian cabinet secretary goes there. But if a recently retired Marine general starts talking about removing the president via “collective action,” it carries with it a whiff of Bonapartism and imagery more appropriate to Buenos Aires or Tegucigalpa than Washington, DC. It smacks of the classic thriller, Seven Days in May. (See Mike Ford’s excellent story on this that Woodward’s book has made relevant again, 7 or 8 Days in May.

At this point, color me agnostic on this account. On the one hand, we have Dan Coats using Bob Woodward to settle scores with Trump. And some of the interior narrative makes no sense…like the National Cathedral. On the other hand, I don’t think Mattis ever bothered to try to conceal his contempt of Trump, so there may be color commentary from Coats, but the underlying story is eminently believable.

This all points to the underlying weakness of the incoming Trump administration that prevented it, in my view, from being one of the most significant first terms of any president in the past 60 or so years. Trump ran as a legitimate outsider. Lots of guys run as an outsider, but virtually none of them are. It is all kabuki for the rubes in the cheap seats. When they are elected, they are surrounded by the same old faces we’ve seen in a half-dozen other administrations. When Trump was elected, it was despite the best efforts of the GOP establishment to defeat him in the primary and sandbag him in the general. He was faced with unremitting hostility, and he had no band of loyalists with whom to fill the vacant policy positions in the administration. This forced him to fall back on hiring resumes. Mattis had a great reputation; Trump was enamored with generals. Tillerson had run a highly successful multinational corporation, and Trump liked that. He did reward early supporters, which is how Jeff Sessions ended up as a weak-sister Attorney General when a wartime consigliere was desperately needed.

With key policy posts held by people who were not only personally disloyal to Trump but who opposed his policies at every step, he was hamstrung, and the fact that he managed to accomplish anything at all is a miracle.

Assuming this story is true, it paints a shameful picture of Jim Mattis. He’s not the legendary “warrior monk,” he’s a disloyal and duplicitous man who took a job from a man he had no intention of serving to the best of his ability and then proceeded to sabotage him behind the scenes. Not a good look at all.

This is the season for political hits. And in a sign that the Biden campaign is nowhere near as confident about November as its trained poodles in the various polling organizations would have you believe, they are pulling out all the stops.

Last week, it was the totally and obviously made-up Jeffrey Goldberg piece in the Atlantic, which, if it is to be believed, would require multiple emails to have been written two years ago in anticipation of this event. Right now, I think we’re at 21 on-the-record denials of the story and zero on-the-record confirmations. (READ our coverage to the Goldberg fabulist essay.)

Today, it was the rollout of the Bob Woodward book “Rage.” (READ Trump Reveals Existence of New Nuclear Weapon to Bob Woodward…Or Did He? Never Mind, Because the Left Still Went Insane and The Woodward Tape Is Another Leftist Smear.) That’s just the beginning.

If this was the planned part of the parade of hits, the ad hoc hits started rolling out today.

A senior Department of Homeland Security official alleges that he was told to stop providing intelligence analysis on the threat of Russian interference in the 2020 election, in part because it “made the President look bad,” an instruction he believed would jeopardize national security.

The official, Brian Murphy, who until recently was in charge of intelligence and analysis at DHS, said in a whistleblower complaint that on two occasions he was told to stand down on reporting about the Russian threat.

On July 8, Murphy said, acting Homeland Security secretary Chad Wolf told him that an “intelligence notification” regarding Russian disinformation efforts should be “held” because it was unflattering to Trump, who has long derided the Kremlin’s interference as a “hoax” that was concocted by his opponents to delegitimize his victory in 2016.

His attorney, who, by the way, is the same guy who represents Eric Ciaramella, the anonymous CIA whistleblower from the laughable impeachment circle-jerk, has assured us this is VERY IMPORTANT:

“Mr. Murphy followed proper lawful whistleblower rules in reporting serious allegations of misconduct against DHS leadership, particularly involving political distortion of intelligence analysis and retaliation,” his attorney, Mark Zaid, said in a statement. “We have alerted both the Executive and Legislative Branches of these allegations and we will appropriately cooperate with oversight investigations, especially in a classified setting.”

Adam Schiff jumped on this story like Ed Buck on a gay hooker with a drug overdose:

This, at first blush, looks very much like the Vindman allegation. A spoiled brat doesn’t get to set the agenda, so he concocts some story that can be routed directly to Schiff and his munchkins. Or, because he’s under fire because of his own misconduct and is now trying to save his own ass:

From there, it becomes a media feeding frenzy as Schiff feeds false stuff, but the media is just too lazy to bother checking. Making this irresistible is the fact that this guy is fingering Chad Wolf and Ken Cuccinelli, two guys the media absolutely loathe. And, for good measure, this involves Russia. This is key because Russia really is a piker in terms of crass election interference when compared to China. Still, the Democrats can’t hit China because too many of their senior people have some ties to China they’d rather not have revealed. (Whose chauffeur was that who was a ChiCom agent?)

The story will burn out because the investigation will not be finished before Election Day, and that is what this whole story is about. The purpose is just to try to fire up the same idiots who bought the Collusion Hoax with yet another story about how Putin wants Trump to win.

As Joe Biden lapped pudding from a plastic bowl and sent his wife, Frau Doktor Professor Jill Biden (our next Surgeon General, I’m told) out on Zoom to spread the Gospel of Riots and Redistribution to the faithful, President Trump was back on the campaign trail in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. North Carolina promises to be a key state for the GOP in 2020, as not only does President Trump need the electoral votes, but Senator Thom Tillis has been the target of a political hit concerning campaign donations. And the left has one of their loonier candidates running for the House in NC-11:

Here are some highlights:

Here is a great slam on Biden’s inability to come out against riots and looting in anything more than a pro forma manner.

Next time you see video of screaming, far left, maniacs shouting wildly at peaceful Americans, remember this: these are Biden supporters and if he wins they will be in charge of your government as sure as you’re sitting there. You’ll be taking your monuments down, you’ll be taking your statues down.

Here, Trump gets a well-deserved dig in at not only the media’s insistence of calling the BLM protests “peaceful” but at the multitude of idiotic mask regulations.

Joe Biden and his party spent the entire summer cheering on the rioters, rampaging through Democrat-run cities, falsely labeling them as “peaceful protesters.” We call you peaceful protesters. You know why? Because they have rules in these Democrat-run states that if you’re campaigning you can’t have more than five people. They did that for me. If you’re going to church…you can’t go to church anymore. You can’t go to church. You can’t go to church, you can’t do anything, you have to stay in your house, but if you’re willing to riot running down Main Street, if you’re willing to riot and stand on top of each others face and do whatever the hell you want to do you’re allowed to do that because you are considered a peaceful protest. So we decided to call all our rallies peaceful protests.

And no Trump rally would be a rally if there was no controversy:

Hours before President Trump arrived in Winston-Salem, N.C., for a campaign rally on Tuesday, the county’s top Republican official issued a warning: The president better be wearing a mask.

“It’s been ordered by the governor,” David Plyler, a Trump supporter and GOP chair of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, told the Winston-Salem Journal. “When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in North Carolina, do as the governor says.”

But when the president emerged Tuesday evening to address a cheering group of supporters, his face was fully exposed, a likely violation of the state’s coronavirus rules.

The same was true of many of the supporters behind his podium, especially those high up in the stands and out of view. And in fact, the whole event appears to have defied restrictions from North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D), who has limited outdoor mass gatherings at 50 people under the state’s current phase of reopening.

Sometimes I wonder why I chose to affiliate with the Republican party. Across the nation, Republican party organizations attract idiots and grifters the way Velcro attracts lint. Why a GOP official would go along with the utter nonsense promulgated by Roy Cooper under the guise of “public health” regulations is just beyond me. No one who was inclined to vote GOP is going to change their vote because Trump blew off wearing a mask, an act that all but the most credulous realize is strictly virtue signaling.

The contrast between Trump and Biden is becoming clear to even the dimmest of bulbs. One man is trying to get America past its inchoate fear and back to normalcy. The other is cowering in his basement, eating bugs, and dreaming about the grifting opportunities available to his brother and son should he become president.

The entire speech by President Trump is below.

Interesting stuff today materialized out of Ukraine. Ukraine, for those of you wearing face masks, is a nation that was vitally critical to US national interests right up to the point when President Trump’s impeachment charges were laughed out of a Senate that counts Mitt Romney among its members. Ukraine became a political battleground in the US because Joe Biden somehow managed to get his grifting, coke-sniffing, baby-daddy son a job on the board of a directors of a company in an industry with which he was not familiar in a country to which he has no family ties and can’t even speak the language of the rest of the board. Now debunked allegations that President Trump conditioned military assistance to Ukraine upon Ukraine investigating Joe Biden led to Trump’s kangaroo court session run by Jerry Nadler and the farcical Senate trial that followed.

Today some tapes were leaked by a Ukraine Member of Parliament named Andrii Derkach. Here are the tapes, in YouTube form, and here are key parts via Robby Starbuck on Twitter

All it took was the right person to notice

And the Biden campaign and their fluffers in the media literally beshat themselves

Joe Biden’s director of pudding…I mean ‘rapid response,’ the Truth Over Facts guy.

This from BuzzFeed News (hahahaha, learn to code, baby) European division

An ‘investigative journalist’ doing reverse jujitsu

One of Biden’s state directors

Another ‘investigative journalist’ and convicted felon

And concern trolling from some guy I never heard of affiliated with an organization that does heaven knows what

Here are the key points as I see them.

The tapes come from a guy who is a school-trained KGB thug so the possibility that they are doctored. There is also a possibility that they aren’t. In this case I think that the same credence need to be shown these tapes as our fearless media firefighters gave to the the Manafort “black ledger,” also from Ukraine, and to the Steele dossier, which was produced by FSB thugs. The tapes, doctored or not, fit, at a minimum, the standard Dan Rather set for the media with his Texas Air National Guard documents in 2004: fake but true. They dovetail perfectly with what we know about Biden’s efforts to shake down Ukraine for money for his kid and with what Biden told us himself about getting the prosecutor who was getting too close to Hunter Biden fired:

In other words, we are required to take these tapes at face value, assume they are true, and proceed accordingly.

What would the next step look like?

Well, with an ordinary American, like Donald Trump, we’d unleash the Intelligence Community and the FBI. We’d get FISA warrants on his kid…they could sell the recordings on PornHub and help write down part of the Wuhan stimulus package. We’d run undercover operatives against members of his campaign. We’d set up stings to entrap senior staffers. We’d leak lies to the press to discredit Biden. But Biden isn’t an ordinary American. He’s Democrat royalty. So we can’t really have a Justice Department and FBI controlled by President Trump investigate Biden. It would be gauche and unseemly. But we do have a solution. A special counsel. Department of Justice regulations say this about the appointment of a special counsel:

28 CFR § 600.1 – Grounds for appointing a Special Counsel.

§ 600.1 Grounds for appointing a Special Counsel.

The Attorney General, or in cases in which the Attorney General is recused, the Acting Attorney General, will appoint a Special Counsel when he or she determines that criminal investigation of a person or matter is warranted and –

(a) That investigation or prosecution of that person or matter by a United States Attorney’s Office or litigating Division of the Department of Justice would present a conflict of interest for the Department or other extraordinary circumstances; and

(b) That under the circumstances, it would be in the public interest to appoint an outside Special Counsel to assume responsibility for the matter.

I think we’re there. No other administration has ever carried out a criminal investigation of a candidate for president from another party and President Trump certainly wouldn’t want to be the first. Even though the tapes must be presumed true, we would be remiss in not giving Biden the benefit of the doubt and there is no better person to do that than a special counsel.

One of the most unprincipled and dishonest members of Congress is about to get his long overdue comeuppance.

Back when the House Intelligence Committee still had professional and competent leadership and was focused on oversight of the Intelligence Community rather than a den of low IQ Machiavelli wannabes, back when actual hearings were conducted on actual issues rather than hanging on the words of a bewhiskered pencil-necked Eric Ciarmarella and a gravy-oozing Alexander Vindman, the committee conducted extensive interviews of 53 officials from the Intelligence Community, the FBI, and Justice to determine what evidence existed of any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia (SPOILER ALERT: there was none). Once the interviews were finished, the committee unanimously voted to release the transcripts. The transcripts were forwarded to the office of the Director of National Intelligence for declassification review and redaction of sensitive information…which is anything that exposes national security information, sources and methods, or tends to expose the routine levels of duplicity and dumbf***ery that takes place within the intelligence agencies.

This is the list of witnesses:

That should have been the end of the story. But the vote took place in September 2018 and in November 2018 the House flipped and Adam Schiff became chairman of the committee. Since then, the transcripts have been in limbo. Neither Dan Coats nor his successor, Joseph Maguire, placed a very high priority on exposing the attempted coup against President Trump that was hatched by James Clapper and John Brennan and so the matter sort of went fallow.

Since then, though, a lot of things have happened. The Mueller report revealed the degree to which the entire investigation was a fraud designed to force Trump from office and, failing that, hamstring his ability to govern. Mueller’s major prosecution against Concord Catering has melted down. A failed attempt at impeachment was launched by Schiff. The Flynn guilty plea is totally discredited and all that remains is for the judge to toss the case or for Trump to issue a pardon. Devin Nunes’s investigation into the Carter Page FISA warrants has been totally vindicated and Schiff’s memo defending the warrants has been shown to be a series of lies detached from any relationship to the truth. More importantly, the Steele Dossier, which Schiff fluffed for four years, has been revealed to be an utter fabrication and known as such since before Mueller was appointed special counsel. And a fairly extensive purge of the office of the Director of National Intelligence has removed the bollards who covered for bad actors and installed former Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell as director. Adam Schiff was not pleased to see his cabal of allies at DNI shown the door.

Even though we know the declassification process is complete, Schiff took it upon himself to abrogate a vote by the House Intelligence Committee and order the DNI to not release the transcripts to anyone including the White House or Department of Justice.

Unsuprisingly, it didn’t take long for Schiff and Grenell to openly clash. Schiff tried to interfere in the internal management of the DNI and received a public humiliation that is rarely visited upon a committee chairman.

This seems to have emboldened Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee and yesterday they made a public demand for the release of the transcripts.

Now Grenell has weighed in on the issue. In a letter obtained by the Washington Examiner’s Byron York, Grenell has told Schiff the documents are going to be released no matter how many angry memos Schiff writes:

Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell has sent a letter to chairman Adam Schiff notifying him that transcripts of all 53 interviews, over 6,000 pages in all, have been cleared for public release. “All of the transcripts, with our required redactions, can be released to the public without any concerns of disclosing classified material,” Grenell wrote to Schiff in a letter dated May 4.

In the letter, Grenell revealed that the 43 transcripts have been finished since June 2019. Schiff has been sitting on them all that time. Grenell said the final ten have just been finished as well. “I urge you to honor your previous public statements, and your committee’s unanimous vote on this matter, to release all 53 cleared transcripts to Members of Congress and the American public as soon as possible,” Grenell said. Just in case Schiff is still not interested, Grenell added, “I am also willing to release the transcripts directly from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, as to ensure we comply with the unanimous and bipartisan vote to release the transcripts.”

This is long overdue and the transcripts, as everyone knows, will show that no one anywhere in the government had anything that could be mistaken for evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. What they will also show is the extent to which Schiff was willing to tell lies to the media and to the public and to his colleagues in order to forward his personal agenda of trying to overthrow the President of the United States.

As Rahm Emanuel famously said, “never let a crisis go to waste.” You can see that axiom in action minute by minute by the leftists driving the conversation in Washington, D.C. and the media. There is a spending bill pending on Capitol Hill that is a grotesque monstrosity of spend-spend-spend for no other reason than to provide political cover for politicians who feel the overwhelming need to “do something.” Even though the money in this bill will not begin to be made available until well after the Wuhan panic recedes, it still provides for all manner of pet leftwing programs, like government-paid child care (wait…aren’t we all supposed to be home social-distancing and self-quarantining?) that will be portrayed as “cuts” by the left once the spending authority for these perks goes away.

This stuff is all minor compared to what is becoming the real agenda. That agenda has as its goal the deliberate destruction of American faith in our current economic system that is based on market forces and not on central planning.

New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio has gone so far as to demand that federal government take over the “supply chain” and, seemingly, the “means of production” right along with it.

We’re playing a huge game of catch up in this country. Let me say it very bluntly, the federal government, at least the last few days, has started to come alive and do something. But we are so far behind. We need massive testing capacity all over the country, particularly in the most affected areas. We need the federal government to take over the supply chain right now. Right now, we have to make sure that the places in this country that need more ventilators, that need surgical masks, that need hand sanitizer, that, that is a federalized dynamic, where those factories that produce those goods are put on 24/7 shifts and those goods are distributed where they’re needed most as we would in wartime.

The assertion that empty shelves or hoarding can cause capitalism to fail is just stupid. Sure, those shelves are empty right now but a) customers have the product at home and will use it and b) in a day or so, those shelves won’t be empty because a truck will arrive with more product from factories that will be responding to increased demand. People who bought large quantities of toilet paper won’t, absent some sort of fetish, go out and stock up on still more. In short, because roads are open and most places still working, there is no real fear that supplies of anything will run out. If the demand persists then rationing via price increases takes place until this madness passes.

DeBlasio’s demand for the federal government to assume control of factory production and product distribution is not only madness that has failed 100% of the times it has been tried but, fortunately, is impossible under our system of government.

This, like a lot of the writing surrounding the Wuhan virus, is shameless scaremongering and an attempt to bootstrap social and economic policies into a transient epidemic that will not significantly affect well over 80% of the people who eventually contract the virus. My view is that a lot of the panic created by the media, beyond that generated with the obvious agenda of causing political damage to President Trump, has the purpose of undermining confidence in our current governance with a view of imposing a more centralized economic system and a form of failed socialism.

On Friday, President Trump gave the press conference that should have been given Wednesday night. It was confident, it showed the administration had not only done its homework but it had a fairly detailed plan to deal with the Wuhan virus. Not only were top administrators and scientists present, also on hand were the CEOs of major corporations with a significant community presence, like WalMart and CVS, to pledge their assistance in the national effort. Here’s the whole news conference cued up to the beginning:

One of the elements of the speech was this:

“I want to thank Google. Google is helping to develop a website. It is going to be very quickly done, unlike websites of the past, to determine whether a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location.

“We have many, many locations behind us, by the way. We cover the — this country and a large part of the world. By the way, we’re not talking about the world right now. But we cover very — very strongly our country, stores in virtually every location. Google has 1,700 engineers working on this right now. They’ve made tremendous progress.”

This is huge. Google has more computing power…and a better work ethic…than CDC or any other federal agency. Getting them on the team was a big get particularly since Google is well-known to be Ground Zero of Trump Hate in Big Tech.

This is how the media reacted.

Google has responded:

This has left egg on the face of the people who jumped the gun simply to be able to call President Trump a liar. In the case of Brian Stelter, his fat face took a lot of eggs.

Why would the media run with this falsehood in the midst of a just-declared ‘national emergency?’ The answer is pretty obvious. When one compares this media frenzy to similar viral epidemics over the last decade, one is struck by the deliberate panic-mongering among the media and the number of articles about Wuhan virus that have as their complete focus how this will hurt President Trump and how this is his “Hurricane Katrina” or even his “Chernobyl.” When it became obvious that his press conference on Friday had stabilized jittery financial markets and was being well received everywhere outside major newsrooms, something had to be done to at least temporarily blunt the effect. Never mind that the objections would be debunked…the media would really have to report the debunking before most of American would hear about it. It was a cheap and gratuitous hit that put a political agenda above the well-being of the country and the safety of Americans.

Much has been said about President Trump labeling #FakeNews as the enemy of the people. But, based on what we’ve seen of the media in action thus far, you really need to ask yourself, “if the media really were the enemy of the people how would their actions differ from what we’re seeing right now?”
