Before November, a loose coalition of anti-Trump organizations is getting ready to file lawsuits and step in during immigration sweeps in an attempt to thwart any steps they believe a second Trump government would take.
As per a New York Times report, organizations such as the radical left Center for American Progress (CAP) and Never Trump groups like Principles First are collaborating to draft lawsuits against anticipated crackdowns on abortion access and illegal immigration, as well as attempts to shrink the federal bureaucracy or employ military force to reestablish law and order.
The chief executive of the far-left think-tank CAP Action Fund, Patrick Gaspard, told the Times that “what Trump and his acolytes are running on is an authoritarian playbook.” “Therefore, we must now democratically validate both our shared values and our actual institutions.”
The organizations are preparing for a conference on “Autocracy in America – A Warning and Response” at New York University next month, organizing a nationwide volunteer model to document and intervene in immigration raids, drafting possible lawsuits, and seeking out sympathetic plaintiffs, among other things.
The Reproductive Freedom Alliance is an organization that Democratic governors founded to coordinate opposition to any prospective federal legislation restricting abortion.
Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, founded the association, which is purportedly nonpartisan but only includes Democratic governors. Together, they are organizing legal actions and passing shield laws to defend patients and abortion providers. They have even started hoarding the abortion drug mifepristone.
For “assistance with scenario preparation and tabletop exercises focusing on what could unfold during a Trump presidency,” the far-left Brennan Center for Justice has recruited journalist Barton Gelman from The Atlantic, a mouthpiece for the Washington establishment hostile to Trump.
According to Michael Waldman, president of the Brennan Center, they were preparing for the possibility that both Trump and Biden would win.
He stated, “For Biden, we are getting ready to enact important legislation bolstering the right to vote, and for Trump, we are figuring out how to minimize the harm from an incredible period of power abuse.”
Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesman, denounced the initiatives as an attempt to subvert the people’s decision in the event that they choose to re-elect Trump.
After the American people voted to support President Trump and his America First program, he added, “It’s not a surprise Biden and his allies are trying overtime to stymie the will of the American people.” “They engage in devious activities that directly threaten democracy.”
