The bill, which sought to bar federally-funded schools from allowing biological males to compete against women, was a direct response to the Biden administration’s relentless efforts to erase the distinction between men and women in athletics.
The legislation, which aligned with President Donald Trump’s executive order Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports, would have codified into law that sex is determined “solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.” That simple, undeniable fact was too much for Senate Democrats, who torpedoed the bill in a move that will force countless young female athletes to compete against bigger, stronger, biologically male competitors.
“Well, at least now the American people know the truth,” Trump wrote on X following the Senate’s rejection. “This is far from over. I’ll NEVER stop fighting to protect women and girls.”
Trump’s executive order had already set the stage for federal agencies to rescind funding from schools that allow biological men into women’s sports. The blocked bill would have reinforced that order, ensuring that Title IX—designed to protect women—wasn’t hijacked by radical activists.
Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a co-sponsor of the bill, expressed disappointment over its failure, stating that this decision will ultimately harm women and girls across the nation. “Women fought hard for their rights under Title IX. The left’s push to redefine biology is an insult to every female athlete who trained for years only to be forced to compete against men.”
Meanwhile, predictable outrage from left-wing groups followed the bill’s introduction, with the ACLU and the Human Rights Campaign absurdly claiming it was part of a “sweeping effort to push transgender people out of public life.” What they fail to mention is that protecting women’s sports has nothing to do with banning people from existence—it has everything to do with ensuring fairness for female athletes.
This latest setback is a clear indication that the battle for women’s rights is far from over. But with Trump leading the charge and conservative lawmakers refusing to back down, this fight is just getting started.
