As of early May, Trump's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has secured $19 million in settlements from employers who trampled workers' religious rights during the COVID vaccine hysteria. Four federal lawsuits have been filed. Roughly 10,000 complaints have landed on the EEOC's desk from Americans who were shown the door for daring to have a conscience.
The latest scalp? AG Equipment, an Oklahoma company that just coughed up $4.25 million in May 2026 after refusing to accommodate workers who had religious objections to the jab. Before that, an unnamed tech company forked over $15 million back in March 2026. These aren't slaps on the wrist. These are the kind of payouts that make corporate HR departments lose sleep.
And they should lose sleep.
Lucas didn't mince words about what happened to these workers. "The pandemic did not exempt employers from their legal obligations under Title VII," she said. That's the Civil Rights Act, for those keeping score — the same law that's supposed to protect Americans from being discriminated against for their sincerely held beliefs. Funny how the "follow the science" crowd forgot that law existed.
The EEOC's own attorneys painted a brutal picture of what employees endured. When workers at AG Equipment asked for religious accommodations, the company "didn't pause to listen or even consider the impact," according to the EEOC attorney on the case. Instead, they were tossed aside like yesterday's mask mandate.
But it got worse at federal agencies under Biden. The EEOC found that employees at the Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Education "were summoned to an inquisitorial panel to be quizzed and lectured on their medical history." An inquisitorial panel. In America. In the 21st century. The agency described it as a "crucible of invasive gotcha-style questioning" — their words, not mine, and they're somehow even more infuriating than anything I could come up with.
Let's zoom out for a second, because the scale of what Biden's mandate mania did to this country is staggering. In New York alone, 34,000 healthcare workers lost their jobs for refusing the vaccine. Nationwide, a survey from October 2021 found that 5% of workers quit rather than comply with employer mandates. These weren't fringe conspiracy theorists. These were nurses, teachers, federal employees, and blue-collar workers who simply said, "My faith comes first."
The Supreme Court saw the overreach coming and blocked OSHA's sweeping vaccine mandate back in January 2022. But by then, the damage was done. Companies had already fired people. Agencies had already conducted their little inquisitions. Careers were already destroyed.
Now Trump's EEOC is doing what the Biden administration never would — holding these employers accountable under the law that was there the whole time. Title VII didn't disappear during COVID.
